"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." - Romans 12:10
Our story
In 2020, our founder, Heidi Breeding, felt a calling from God to create an organization dedicated to helping homeowners restore their houses to safe, livable conditions. While many organizations were focused on building new homes for families in need, Heidi recognized a critical gap in her own community—families who already had homes but lacked the resources to maintain or repair them.
She saw neighbors facing the very real risk of losing the homes they loved due to financial hardship and deferred maintenance. From that vision—and with faith at the center—PETRA Built was born.
PETRA Built is a Christian, nondenominational nonprofit that partners with homeowners who have fallen on difficult circumstances and need help restoring their homes. We prioritize serving individuals who are disabled, those impacted by natural disasters, and anyone unable to make essential repairs required for their home to meet safe, habitable standards.
Our mission goes beyond fixing houses. We exist to restore dignity, security, and hope by creating warm, safe, and welcoming spaces that families can truly call home. When a home is restored, it strengthens more than a single household—it helps uplift entire communities.
By preserving and improving existing homes, we contribute to stronger neighborhoods, revitalized streets, and the protection of property values in underserved areas. Our work is made possible by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about serving others, along with the generous support of local churches, businesses, and community fundraising efforts.
Based in Houston, Texas, PETRA Built continues to grow with a vision to expand into additional regions. We are a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
